“When you stare at your reflection in mirror, do you see the real you, or do you see what you have been made to believe is you? I, for one – I see darkness. I see a vast lake of dark waters, calm and infinite. When I think of myself, I imagine that I am a boat. I am boat sailing through this dark lake. There is no sky above, only darkness, and the water that suspends me is dark as well, so there is nothing to see or focus your sight on other than the sound of the ripples you leave behind but cannot see. You must think I’m lonely, but you would be wrong, for it is in darkness and solitude where we are least alone.”
The text belongs to the introduction of Trip to Paradise Country, a novel in the making (WIP).
